The 850\u202fMW, 1,680\u202fMWh facility, operated by <strong data-start=\"390\" data-end=\"408\">Akaysha Energy<\/strong> at Munmorah, New South Wales, encountered the failure during final \u201chold point\u201d testing.<\/h5>\n<p data-start=\"499\" data-end=\"848\">According to <strong data-start=\"512\" data-end=\"530\">Akaysha Energy<\/strong>, one of the three transformers is beyond repair, while a second has also shown issues, complicating the timeline for reaching full capacity. Despite this, the battery continues to provide interim System Integrity Protection Scheme (<strong data-start=\"763\" data-end=\"771\">SIPS<\/strong>) services at 350\u202fMW, supporting the stability of the NSW electricity grid.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"850\" data-end=\"1138\">The <strong data-start=\"854\" data-end=\"879\">Waratah Super Battery<\/strong> is designed to act as a \u201cshock absorber\u201d for transmission lines feeding Sydney, Newcastle, and Wollongong. Full capacity operation would allow it to deliver up to 700\u202fMW and 1,400\u202fMWh for <strong data-start=\"1068\" data-end=\"1076\">SIPS<\/strong>, with additional capacity traded in the electricity market.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1140\" data-end=\"1509\">Originally scheduled to be fully operational before the planned closure of the 2.88\u202fGW <strong data-start=\"1227\" data-end=\"1253\">Eraring coal generator<\/strong>, the delay now extends the timeline by at least a year.
