Virginia Transformer has delivered two new transformers to MPLX's Harmon Creek 3 gas processing facility in Washington County, Pennsylvania. The units, built at Virginia Transformer's P2 plant in Chihuahua, Mexico, include a 30/50 MVA, 138/13.8 kV transformer and a 20/33.333 MVA, 138/4.16 kV transformer. Both units are designed with a 60-year lifespan to provide reliable power for decades.
MPLX, formed in 2012 by Marathon Petroleum Corporation (MPC), operates in natural gas gathering, processing, and transportation, as well as the distribution of crude oil, refined products, NGLs, and renewables. The company is expanding its Harmon Creek facility with a 300 MMcf/d natural gas processing plant and a 40,000 bbls/d de-ethanizer, expected to be operational by mid-2026.
Virginia Transformer emphasized its commitment to supporting commercial and industrial projects nationwide, highlighting its ability to deliver high-quality transformers with rapid lead times. The project was led by the manufacturer's representative Ryan Scott from JC Scott & Associates, who played a key role in the sale and delivery of the units.
This delivery underscores ongoing investments in the U.S. natural gas sector, supporting infrastructure upgrades and expanding processing capabilities to meet growing energy demand.
